Chapter 575 575: Black-Style Special Training
Chapter 575 575: Black-Style Special Training
On Sunday, Hogsmeade was bathed in warm sunlight, golden rays streamed through the windows and scattered mottled patches of light and shadow across the attic.
Wade stepped out of the Vanishing Cabinet, closed the door behind him, and waited another ten minutes before hearing a knock, knock, knock from inside.
He opened the cabinet to find Harry inside, panting heavily.
"Sorry I'm late," Harry said, adjusting his crooked glasses. "Professor McGonagall stopped me at the last minute—she said there were a few small mistakes in the homework I handed in last week."
Wade understood immediately. "You got lazy and didn't check your sources when you wrote your essay?"
Harry pulled a face. "Just that one time… It was late, I was in a hurry to finish, so I wrote it from memory. Who knew I'd get two points wrong about the 'Ban on Experimental Transfiguration Act'?"
"Next time, make sure you have Hermione check it for you before you hand it in," Wade advised, pushing open the attic door.
The old hinges gave a long creeeak, and soon footsteps sounded on the stairs. A moment later, Sirius appeared.
"Ah, my two champions!" he said, spreading his arms wide with a big grin. "Come on in! Remus baked a cake—we've been waiting for you for ages!"
Harry walked over as usual and gave Sirius a warm hug, while Wade smiled and nodded. "Good afternoon, Sirius."
Lupin poked his head from the stairwell and warmly said, "I thought you two would be here in the morning! Did something hold you up?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Sirius exchanged a knowing wink with his friend and teased, "Champions the whole wizarding world is talking about… Imagine how many pretty witches are lining up to say hello!"
"We were helping Hagrid with a makeover. He seems to have fallen in love at first sight with the headmistress of Beauxbatons."
Harry explained seriously, recounting everything they'd done together that morning.
"Hagrid?" Sirius laughed. "So the big guy's finally decided to find himself a girlfriend?"
"I've seen a photo of Madame Maxime in the papers," Lupin said. "She's about the same size as Hagrid, isn't she?"
"That's right," Wade nodded. "And she's very elegant. Hagrid was smitten right away."
"That's wonderful news. They're in much the same situation… it's not easy to find someone who can truly be a partner," Lupin said sincerely. He still remembered the help Hagrid had given him when he was forced to become a werewolf.
Once they got downstairs to the living room, Lupin took a golden-brown cake out of the oven, the scent of cream and chestnuts filling the air. Sirius, meanwhile, directed the teapot to pour everyone steaming cups of black tea.
Harry sat on the sofa and described the selection scene and the champions from each school: "…Viktor, Seraphina, Baboucarr—they all look formidable, and most of them are already adults.
"There's one younger than us, a student from Mahoutokoro. She's apparently been studying magic for six years and is very strong."
"To be honest, I still feel like I've been hit in the head with a Bludger—completely dazed."
"Don't sell yourself short, Harry. You've definitely got talent!"
Sirius clapped Harry hard on the back and grinned. "Starting today, I'll be your sparring partner for duel training. I can also teach you a few spells I invented back in my youth—guaranteed to catch your opponents off guard!"
"Sirius, this is an official competition—it'll be broadcast to the entire wizarding world," Lupin said helplessly. "If Harry humiliates his opponent in public, that's not going to be a good thing."
"Remus, do you honestly think the only spells I know are prank curses meant to embarrass people?" Sirius shot back indignantly.
"…Alright, my fault." Lupin raised a hand in surrender. "I should have known you wouldn't mess around when it comes to Harry."
"Of course," Sirius said—though there was a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
"Harry, Wade, you need to be careful of Durmstrang's headmaster, Igor Karkaroff."
As Lupin cut the cake, he continued, "Remember? I told you about him before—he used to be a Death Eater, and during his trial, he sold out his companions to save himself."
"Everyone knows he was a Death Eater," Harry said in a muffled voice. "So why can he still be headmaster of Durmstrang?"
"That's Durmstrang for you—their attitude toward Dark Arts isn't the same as ours."
"And it's not just him you have to watch out for," Sirius added, raising an eyebrow.
"The rest of that school's staff and students aren't necessarily harmless either. Grindelwald operated in that region—his influence has probably seeped in long ago. Wouldn't surprise me if a few of the champions are from the Alliance."
Wade rubbed his nose. "I suppose that's exactly why Dumbledore invited Professor Moody to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts?"
"Exactly," Sirius said. "An old Auror's instincts are more reliable than a Sneakoscope. Still, you both need to watch for anything unusual, and don't go getting chummy with Durmstrang students. Got it?"
"Got it."
Harry nodded, forked up some cake, and stuffed it into his mouth.
After dessert, Harry pulled on his Invisibility Cloak, Wade used a Disillusionment Charm, and the four of them headed to the outskirts of the village, to a clearing in the woods surrounded by ancient oak trees.
"This is where Wade completed his first Animagus transformation," Remus said, patting a nearby tree with a hint of nostalgia. "We almost thought we'd lost him."
Harry had heard bits of the story before, and asked Sirius curiously, "Did that happen to you too—forgetting who you were after transforming?"
"It's not that hard for everyone," Sirius explained.
"Wade rushed into it too fast, so he ran into all sorts of problems. We, on the other hand, spent years learning before our first transformation—James and I almost never lost self-awareness. Only Wormtail…"
He paused, and his expression darkened briefly before continuing in a neutral tone, "That guy turned into an animal and immediately wanted to scurry into a hole. We had to drag him out and help him recover."
Harry stayed silent. Living with Sirius and Lupin had finally given him a home, and the memory of his parents didn't feel as raw as before.
He used to envy the unconditional love the Dursleys gave Dudley, and he'd longed for the parents he couldn't remember. But now, as a child who was loved, he could more calmly accept the fact of their deaths.
Sirius, though—Harry knew he might never let go. When you've once had a love that burned so brightly, its loss can only cut deeper, leaving a wound that refuses to fade.
While Harry was lost in thought, Sirius quickly pulled himself together.
He clapped his hands as his long black hair whipped in the wind, and called out loudly: "Alright, kids! Ready for some Black-Style Special Training?"
